One cold evening in 1987, five families gathered at our beloved Raju Uncles home. Only God could have known that from this small gathering, the Philadelphia Brethren Assembly would grow. This five family gathering would grow over the years, as more and more believers migrated to the Philadelphia area. As the Lord blessed this gathering and allowed it to grow, He would provide the appropriate building for His children to gather in to worship Him. As Romans 8:28 so often reminds us, God does work for the good of those who love him. After a year of prayer and growth, God would graciously provide the small gathering a home in a hall located on Tabor Road, in Philadelphia. It was in this hall, with 13 families attending, that the Philadelphia Brethren Assembly would be officially formed. We would meet in this hall for the next six years. God continued to be faithful to the assembly, allowing it to grow even more. After spending more time in prayer as to whether there was another space for PBA, as it came to be called, to gather, God provided for us again; PBA found a new home on Rising Sun Avenue and Adams Avenue in Philadelphia. It would be impossible to list the way God continued to bless PBA over the next 12 years. The assembly would grow both spiritually and physically, celebrating God's glories together through Sunday morning worship, Tuesday evening men's meetings, Saturday afternoon ladies' meeting, as well as youth meetings for both the younger and older children in the assembly. As God continued to bless the assembly and allow it to grow, a need arose for a new home. After years of prayer and patiently waiting on His time and His will, God again provided a new home. In June of 2005, the Philadelphia Brethren Assembly would move to its current home in Glenside, PA. We currently have 45 families in the assembly, taking part in its various ministries, primarily Sunday morning worship along with Adult Bible Study, Sunday School. God Scouts for the younger children, Daniel Club for the older youth, a College and Career Theology class, and the Echo Outreach Ministry. We pray that we can effectively work God's will in our new community, while continually praising and worshiping His name. |
